Timo Brielmann, 52 weeks of #YOURFARMERS

"When we decided to be a full-time grain farm, I spent many hours ripping out the fences that I helped put in when I was younger."

Timo and his family moved to Pinewood, Ontario (west of Thunder Bay) from Germany when he was a few months old, and his dad began managing a farm for a local family in the community. The Schmutz family, who owned the farm at the time, were having a tough time growing crops, and in 1991 they decided to become a beef farm. As the beef farm grew, Timo’s family began slowly purchasing the farm and crop land, growing their own crops. Timo and his sister grew up helping out with field work, feeding cattle and pasture management.

"When we're really busy in the fields, that’s priority number one. But we have chosen to be that busy with the life farming has brought us, and we wouldn’t trade it for anything."

Daryl is a fifth generation farmer in Belwood, Ontario. The Burnett family grows corn, soybeans and wheat on their farm, which was originally purchased by Darryl's great-great grandmother. Over the years, the Burnett family farm has evolved into a modern, sustainable operation, but it is still run by a close knit family.
