Krista Patterson, 52 weeks of #YOURFARMERS

Krista Patterson

My favourite aspect of farming is seeing the first leaf emerging after planting. I get excited to see the potential of the crop right from the beginning.

After graduating from the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus in 2011, Krista was the 5th generation to return home to farm full-time growing corn and soybeans in Newbury, ON. Today, the farm consists of three generations of farming women and Krista’s husband Gary.

Everybody on the farm has their own role in the operation: Evelyn prepares and delivers meals; Lenore applies fertilizer, plants soybeans, and is a certified accountant; Krista makes the production plans and operates all the machinery. Gary completes repair and maintenance tasks, operates the machinery, and transports the grain, while also working off farm as a full-time welder. Gary and Krista have an infant daughter, Eila, who is now the 6th generation on this farm. Krista and her family strive to continuously learn and experiment with new practices to improve the health of their soil and produce high quality, healthy grains.
